Julius Bacher
Julius Bacher (* 1810 in Ragnit, today Neman, † 1889) was a German writer.
Bacher studied medicine in Königsberg, and then practiced for ten years, after which he devoted himself exclusively to literary work. He came first as a playwright with the tragedies Lucie and Charles XII. first love (Königsberg 1850) on.
Much wider appeal found the historical novels of Sophie Charlotte, the philosophical Queen (Berlin 1857), Frederick I last days of life (Berlin 1857) and The Bride Look Frederick the Great. ( Berlin. 1857), of which the author of the latter, fashioned in a comedy.
The 1857 listed on the royal stage in Berlin five-act character image from the life led Bacher to choose Berlin for his permanent residence. Here he published three volumes of short stories (Berlin 1860) and the novels:
- A verdict of Washington ( Jena 1864)
- Sibylle of Cleves (Berlin 1865), which is held for Bacher's best work. Sibylle is the wife of the Elector John Frederick of Saxony, whose fates are told with a poetic sense.
- Napoleon's Last Love (Berlin 1868)
- At the Congress of Vienna (Leipzig 1869)
- Princess Sidonie (Leipzig 1870)
