Julius Blank

Julius Blank ( born June 2, 1925 in Manhattan, † 17 September 2011 in Palo Alto) was an American mechanical engineer and a member of the Traitorous Eight ( German: " The traitorous eight" ).

Life and work

Julius Blank grew up in New York City and earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the City College of New York. Before, in 1956 the newly founded Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory employees, a division of Beckman Instruments, he was in a plant of Western Electric in New Jersey. From there, the engineers Dean Knapic and Eugene Kleiner were also changed to the Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory. When Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory Blank was among other things responsible for the construction and maintenance of facilities for the breeding of semiconductor crystals. In 1957 he left Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory, along with other disgruntled employees. This group later became known as the Traitorous Eight ( German " traitorous eight" ). They founded together the Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation.

In 1978 he co-founded Xicor, where he was a member of the Board of Directors.
