Julius Classicus

Julius Classicus was a leader of Treverians and Roman usurper in the late 1st century.

Classicus was for a long time as the commander of a cavalry cohort in Roman service on the middle and lower Rhine worked until he was moved in the year 70 by the Batavians Julius Civilis, which he had initially fought to revolt from Rome. With them also fought Julius Tutor and, as head of the conspiracy, the Lingone Julius Sabinus, to enforce the establishment of a Gallic empire. After clearing the legate Gaius Dillius Vocula Classicus moved in the Imperial Mantle into the Legion camp Neuss, leaving the troops there swear the oath of allegiance. After a few months the rebellion was suppressed by Vespasian's generals Petilius Cerialis.
