Julius Firmicus Maternus

Julius Firmicus Maternus was a Roman senator and astrological writer of the 4th century AD, who converted to Christianity later.

Approximately 335-337 authored a native of Sicily Firmicus a work in eight books ( libri octo Matheseos ), in which he gave an outline of ancient astrology and defended against its critics. The work is the governor of Campania, Egnatius Lollianus Mavortius dedicated.

Later Firmicus Maternus converted to Christianity and wrote a book 346-350 ( de errore profanarum religionum ), in which he attacked the non-Christian religions and called for their extermination.

The lunar crater Firmicus is named after him.
