Julius August Roger ( born February 23, 1819 in Niederstotzingen, † January 7, 1865 at Rachowitz, county Tost - Gleiwitz ) was a German physician, naturalist, entomologist, folklorist and collector of folk songs.

In Upper Silesia alone, he has over 400 species of beetles found and recorded new. In addition, he collected hundreds of folk songs, mostly from Upper Silesia and in Polish. One part was published in the book " Folk Songs of the Upper Silesians " 1863 in Breslau, which he dedicated to the Duke of Ratibor. Roger was a friend and associate entomologist Ernst Gustav Kraatz.

Life and work

Roger in 1846 assistant to the active at the Medical Clinic Tübingen Professor Karl Wunderlich. 1847 Roger entered the service of the Duke of Ratibor, Duke Victor Moritz Karl Friedrich of Hohenlohe- Waldenburg - Schillingsfuerst ( 1818-1893 ). The residence of the Duke, Great Rauden in Upper Silesia, was from this point of action for Rogers. Under Duke Viktor I. He was appointed Royal Court Councillor. He convinced the Duke from the construction of a modern hospital in the United Rauden. Later he campaigned for the construction of a hospital in Rybnik. He worked in the hospital in Pilchowitz.

Roger died on 7 January 1865, 45 years ago during a hunt in Herzoglich Ratibor 's forest of a stroke. The funeral took place on January 11. The grave Rogers is located in United Rauden.

In memory of Julius Roger Duke Viktor I. erect at his place of death at Rachowitz a monument. On May 26, 1865, the Julius -Roger Foundation was founded to support the needy.
