Ernst Gustav Kraatz

Ernst Gustav Kraatz ( born March 13, 1831 in Berlin, † November 2, 1909 ) was a German entomologist.

Kraatz visited the Köllnische grammar school and high school to the Grey Abbey, before he first studied law, but soon switched to zoology. In 1856 he received his doctorate in Jena with a koleopterologischen work. After several study trips abroad he became a contributor to the natural history of insects in Germany. He conducted research mainly on Coleoptera ( beetles) and brought it to about 1400 publications. He was also a professor at the University of Berlin.

Kraatz 1856 founded the Berlin Entomological Club, 1881, the German Entomological Society, whose many years he was chairman, and in 1886 the German Entomological National Museum.

His collection is in German Entomological Institute.
