Julius Vorster

Julius Vorster ( born April 29, 1809 in Hamm, † October 10, 1876 in lime in Cologne ) was a German industrialist in the chemical industry and co-founder of Chemische Fabrik Kalk.

Life

Vorster opened a commercial apprenticeship in Cologne a thriving chemicals act. After entering the business partner Harhaus they operated under Vorster and Harhaus. Later it was called then Julius Vorster.

A significant portion of its sales made ​​Vorster with saltpetre, which he introduced from Bengal and that was needed for explosives in mining, mines and tunnels. Mid-1850s stopped the British because of the Crimean War the export of this chemical. The resulting bottleneck was a motive, in 1858, together with Hermann Julius Green Mountain to establish the Chemische Fabrik Kalk. Green Mountain mounted with the know -how of how to make potash as a substitute for saltpeter on an industrial scale.

Vorster was married to Wilhelmine (b. Roehrig ). With this he had several children. He was the founder of the Protestant Hospital in Cologne. He is buried on the Melatenfriedhof. According to him, the Vorster street was named in lime.
