Juncus trifidus

Trefoil rush ( Juncus trifidus )

The three-bladed rush ( Juncus trifidus ), also known as Three-column rush, belongs to the family of the Rushes ( Juncaceae ). She is an outspoken cold hands and occurs mainly in the higher regions of the mountains on rocks and in crevices.

System

According to K. Kiffe (2000 ), two subspecies are Germany in the ordinary three- leaf rush ( Juncus trifidus subsp. Trifidus L.) and the Wenigblütige Trefoil rush ( Juncus trifidus subsp. Monanthos ( Jacq. ) Asch & Graebn. ) Distinguished. According to J. Kirschner et al. (2002 ) are both independent species, Juncus and Juncus L. trifidus monanthos Jacq .. Both the Swiss and the Austrians in the flora species are separated.

Distribution and location

The three-bladed sedge is common throughout Europe. In the south it is found only in the mountains of 1600-3000 meters above sea level. Furthermore, it is native to Asia to Siberia, Greenland and the eastern United States. In Germany, the species occurs at a few sites only in the East Bavarian border mountains and the Alps.

It grows on rocks, in rock crevices and in dry, lean grass ( dwarf shrub heath and Nardus grasslands ) and in Schneetälchen.

Description

The three-bladed sedge is a perennial, evergreen Hemikryptophyt, the little 10 to 30 (-40 ) cm high forming clumps or grass. The stems grow upright. They are thread- thin about 0.5 to 0.8 millimeters thick, hardly grooved and only slightly hairy, round and fitted at the base with non-lattice annoying leaf sheaths. The basal leaf sheaths are pale yellow to light brown and slightly shiny. You are spreitenlos or wearing only a very short to 1 centimeter long blade side. The gray-green leaves are also very thin and semi-cylindrical - tiefrinnig. At the mouth of the leaf sheaths 2 to 4 millimeters long, formed wimperig slashed ears into three parts almost to the ground. Ligule ( ligules ) are not available.

The inflorescence is a two-to vierblütige Spirre. It is clearly dominated by two to three bracts. The red-brown tepals are 3 to 5 mm all the same length. You wear a green midrib and are tapered slim and long. They surround six stamens and three white recurved scars. The fruit capsule is equipped with long reddish brown and tip. She is always shorter than the perianth.

The chromosome number is 2n = 30,

Ecology

Pollination of flowers carried by the wind ( anemophily ). The light plant the trefoil bulrush can not tolerate shade. It is a cold hand. In the mountains it occurs only in subalpine to alpine altitudes before. Your ecological focus is on dry to fresh, nitrogen-poor to poorest nitrogen but deficient in lime never strongly acidic soils in alpine grassland, crevices and scree.
