Jungermanniales

Mylia taylorii

The Jungermanniales are an order leafy liverworts. The order was first described by Hugo Erich Meyer of Klingraeff ( 1820-1902 ). Its name goes back to the German physician and botanist Ludwig Young man after Carl Linnaeus had named the genus Jungermannia.

The Jungermanniales have long been seen as one of the largest groups of liverworts and included several thousand species. Today, they are a purely molecular genetic defined order. Although their relationship is secured, they share no specific morphological features ( synapomorphies ) with each other.

The Jungermanniales include after piercing Frey and about 420 species and are structured as follows:

  • Order Jungermanniales Subordination Balantiopsineae Family Balantiopsaceae
  • Family Trichotemnomaceae
