Junkfood

Junkfood ( American English: junk food, junk of " inferior material ") is a polemical term with a negative connotation for viewed as inferior or unhealthy foods. This refers especially high in fat, salt or sugar -containing foods such as French fries, potato chips, candy and soft drinks, especially if they are industrially produced, and generally fast food such as hamburgers, also high-calorie convenience foods and the like.

The term junk food is common in the United States since the 1970s. As one of the oldest sources for the use of the word junk fast food is considered an article of Time Magazine 18 December 1972. However It was not explicitly mentioned by Junkfood. That was in a Washington Post article dated 9 March 1973 case. There are also individuals who are named as inventors of this concept, including the Gastro critic Gael Green of New York Magazine (1971) and former director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, Michael Jacobson (1972). In fact, this expression is already much older. The Merriam - Webster Dictionary in 1960 contained an entry for junk food.

Popularized the term by the song Junk Food Junkie by Larry Groce in 1976.
