Hans -Jürgen Sundermann (born 25 January 1940 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) is a former German football player and coach.

Life

After graduating from the Municipal Gymnasium in Mülheim an der Ruhr, he played in the 1960s and 1970s for the first FC Mülheim and Rot-Weiss Oberhausen and later also for the SC Viktoria Köln and Hertha BSC and in Switzerland with FC Basel and Servette Geneva. For Oberhausen he graduated from 1958 to 1962 in the then prime Oberliga West 87 games and scored two goals. 1962/63, in the league last year, came under coach Hennes Weisweiler at Viktoria Köln 30 other premier league bets with three goals added. From the season 1963/64 Bundesliga soccer and including the second-rate football regional leagues ran. In the debut year of the West Regional of the mostly playing as an external rotor Sundermann played 34 league games for Victoria, scoring three goals. He scored eight goals in 26 league games. In the promotion round to the Bundesliga Hertha but could not argue against Fortuna Dusseldorf, FK Pirmasens and Kickers Offenbach. He moved to Switzerland to Servette Geneva, to FC Basel and again to Geneva. In Switzerland, he won the 1969 and 1970 titles.

In March 1960, he graduated under national coach Sepp Herberger 2-1 against Chile his only 'A' game with the German national soccer team. It was followed by two more appearances in the U - 23 selection, with which his international career, however, was terminated.

During his active career Sundermann was only player-manager of Servette Geneva and later coach at various clubs, including at Racing Strasbourg, FC Schalke 04, Hertha BSC, Trabzonspor, VfB Leipzig, Grasshoppers Zurich and SV Waldhof Mannheim. Three times he was a total coach of VfB Stuttgart, 1976-1979, 1980-1982, and in early summer 1995. 1977 he succeeded with VfB promotion to the Bundesliga. In the following years he led the team three times on a place in the top four. These successes earned him the reputation of the "Miracle 's".

He married 1966 Monika Nehls, which later became known under the name of her husband as Dalli Dalli assistant; the couple has two sons. Today, the couple lives in Leonberg near Stuttgart. Sundermann is active as a junior sponsor: He is the founder of the FAZ ( Football Training Center ) Jürgen Sundermann.
