Jüri Tamm

Jüri Tamm ( born February 5, 1957 in Pärnu ) is a former Soviet and Estonian hammer thrower and current politician.

Tamm won the bronze medals at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1988 in Seoul. At the 1987 World Championships in Rome, he won the silver medal. For the newly independent Estonia, he joined again at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 and reached there the 5th Place.

Tamm held in 1980 with 80.46 meters briefly the hammer throw world record, but was surpassed on the same day of its competitors Yuri Sedych. His personal best he set in 1984 in Banská Bystrica on with 84,40 m. He had a competition weight of 110 kg at a height of 1.90 m.

After his athletic career, he went into politics in 1998 and was elected as a Member of the Social Democratic Party in 1999 and 2003 in the Estonian parliament.
