Jurica Vranješ

Jurica Vranješ [ juritsa ʋraɲɛʃ ] ( born January 31, 1980 in Osijek ) is a retired Croatian football player.

Career

Association

Vranješ first played to 1997 in Serbia with FK Vojvodina Novi Sad. He then moved to NK Osijek, before he came to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in January 2000. After three years he moved to VfB Stuttgart where he quite successfully finished the first season. After a rather disappointing second season in 2005 he moved to Werder Bremen. He signed a contract until 2008, which was subsequently extended to 2011. In the match against Eintracht Frankfurt on 13 May 2009 he wore after the substitution of Frank Baumann the captain's armband.

After 2009/10 he played no role in the squad for Werder Bremen in the first round of the season, he was loaned during the winter break until the end of the season Gençlerbirliği Ankara. In the summer he returned to Bremen, but was not even due to some critical remarks about coach Thomas Schaaf the pro squad of Bremen; his shirt number 7 which he had taken over from Paul Stalteri, was awarded to Marko Arnautović. Vranješ trained in the following time with Werder's second team, but was not even there in the squad. His contract expired on 30 June 2011 and was not renewed.

On 12 September 2011 Vranješ signed for Greek first division club Aris Thessaloniki a one-year contract until 30 June 2012.

On June 6, 2012 it was announced that Vranješ a two -year contract signed with the Croatian first division side HNK Rijeka until 30 June 2014. In the autumn of 2012 he played his last missions there and then ended his career.

National

In 1999, he was in a match against Egypt his debut in the Croatian national team. For his native Croatia, he also took part in the Football World Cup 2002, where he played two games. Also at the 2006 World Cup, he was a mainstay in the team.
