Jussi Jalas

Armas Veikko Jussi Jalas ( until 1944 under the Swedish name Jussi Blomstedt; born June 23, 1908 in Jyväskylä, † 11 October 1985 in Helsinki) was a Finnish conductor and son of composer Jean Sibelius.

Jalas ' father was the architect Yrjö ( George ) Blomstedt ( 1871-1912 ), who died when Jalas was 3 years old. Jalas conducting studies in Paris. In August 1929 he married Sibelius's fourth daughter Margaret ( 1908-88 ), which he had in 1924, met at the age of 15 years, as well as her father. From 1930 to 1945 he was conductor at the Finnish National Theatre, then at the Finnish National Opera until 1973. Moreover, he headed from 1943-50 and from 1955-65 the first conducting class at the Sibelius Academy. From 1950 to 1955 he was represented on the basis of U.S. tours of Leo Funtek ( 1885-1965 ), which studied during this time Jorma Panula.

Jalas orchestrated a series of Sibelius ' piano songs.
