Justin Cartwright

Justin Cartwright ( born 1945 in South Africa) is a British writer of South African origin.

Cartwright was born in South Africa, his father was editor of the Johannesburg daily newspaper Rand Daily Mail. He grew up in the United States and studied at Trinity College, Oxford. He then worked in advertising and as a director of films, documentaries and commercials. For the British party Liberal party, he turned as a spin- doctor the television election advertising for the elections in 1979, 1983 and 1987. For this he was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire ( MBE).

He wrote his first novel Deep Six 1972. His third novel, Look at It This Way was filmed in 1992 as a three-part mini-series by the BBC with Kristin Scott Thomas in the lead role, he himself wrote the screenplay. In 1995 he was nominated In Every Face I Meet for the Booker Prize, the most important British literary award.

He lives in Islington, London with his wife and two sons.
