Kadru

Kadru (Sanskrit, f, कद्रू, Kadrū, literally: " the Brown " ) is a figure in Hindu mythology. It embodies the earth as opposed to Vinata that represents the sky.

Kadru is the daughter of Daksha. In the creation story, it is the wedded wife of Kashyapa, the old Creator and Father of the creatures. Kadru Kashyapa gave birth to a multitude of eggs from which the various types of snake multiform Nagas hatched, the Kadraveya.

Since Vinata, also, had only children a woman Kashyapas, she became jealous of Kadru and their numerous offspring and broke the first egg. The essence in the egg, however, had not yet assumed a form, so the flash was. The second egg contained a radiant young people, but due to the premature birth had no legs. It was Aruna, the dawn, the charioteer of the Sun God Surya.
