The University Kagawa (香 川 大学jap, Kagawa daigaku, in short: Kadai (香 大) ) is a state university in Japan. The main campus is located in Saiwaicho, Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture.

History

The (older) Kagawa University was founded in 1949 by the merger of three state schools. The three were:

  • The normal school Kagawa (香 川 师范学校, Kagawa shihan Gakko, founded in 1874 ),
  • Youth Normal School Kagawa (香 川 青年 师范学校, Kagawa his shihan Gakko Zentsuji, founded in 1924 ), and
  • The business school Takamatsu (高 松 経 済 専 门 学校, Takamatsu keizai Semmon Gakko, founded in 1923 ).

The business school Takamatsu, the predecessor of the Faculty of Economics, was established as the 12th state higher commercial school and was first called Commercial College Takamatsu (高 松 高等 商业 学校, Takamatsu Kōtō shōgyō Gakko ). One of the most famous alumni was Masayoshi Ohira, who later graduated from the University of Tokyo trading. The school was renamed the business school Takamatsu in 1944, and in July 1945 the school buildings were destroyed by the Pacific War. The school moved to Zentsuji 1948 and came back in the rebuilt campus. Today Saiwaicho campus is the former home of the business school and the normal school.

The University Kagawa was opened with two faculties ( Liberal Arts and Economics ). 1955, the prefectural Agricultural University Kagawa was (香 川 県 立 农科 大学, Kagawa kenritsu Noka daigaku, founded in 1903 ) to the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. In 1966, the Faculty of Liberal Arts was renamed the Faculty of Education. The University added faculties added: Jurisprudence (1981) and Engineering ( 1997). In 2003, the (older) Kagawa University and the Medical University of Kagawa (香 川 医科大学, Kagawa ika daigaku, founded in 1978 ) merged to the newer Kagawa University.

STARS spacecraft

The Satellite Development Project of Kagawa University Kagawa developed Space Tethered Autonomous Robotic Satellite ( STARS ) was composed of two by a Space Tether interconnected satellites ( mother and daughter). STARS was launched on 23 January 2009 as a second payload of the flight 15 of the Japanese H-IIA launch vehicle of the Earth observation satellites GOSATin brought his orbit simultaneously.
