History

A church in Kahlenbergerdorf has already been mentioned in documents in 1168 and 1256 was already an independent parish. The church was destroyed in 1529 and 1683 by the Turks, in 1809 it was devastated in the wake of the Napoleonic wars and rebuilt each time by the Stift Klosterneuburg again or repaired. Restoration was done in 1633 and 1771st The parish church is based on a simple, late Romanesque and early Gothic building. However, by the recent completed renovation, the church received a Baroque character. Also, the south tower was equipped with a Baroque dome. The white cross vault in the interior, however, was built after the destruction of the church by the Turks. The arch rests on the straps and pilasters of the preserved medieval part of the church.

Interior

The central element of the church is the Baroque high altar with the representation of St. Andrew. He is flanked by statues of St. Leopold and St. Florian. The representation of Saint George dates from 1827 and was the Nazarene painter Johann Stätter after a sketch by Ludwig Ferdinand Schnorr von Carol field painted. Right of the high altar there is a late Baroque Marie Age, which was created in 1760. The center located in the late-Gothic Madonna, however, dates from the early 16th century. There is a large, baroque crucifix that came from a cross altar no longer extant on the south wall of the church. This was in 1732 attached to the north exterior wall, but removed in the 19th century. Other notable members of the Church are a Gothic baptismal font made ​​of red marble ( 1500), an offertory box with rosette decoration and a scalloped Stoup (both 17th century). The organ by Franz Ullmann dates from 1849.
