Kalhana

Kalhana ( 12th century ) was the author of Rajatarangini, the History of Kashmir. This story was written between 1147-1149. Champaka His father was a minister of the Raja.

Kalhana, whose name can be attributed in Sanskrit no meaning and therefore probably comes from a former local dialect, was the first Indian historian of rank.

He writes a history of the Rajas of Kashmir, so only people story without any attempt of social structure or even history. But he is very concerned about neutrality. This is among the many principles of historiography, which he formulated. Its source base includes inscriptions, genealogical tables and coins, but in addition also literary works and folk art such as legends and proverbs.
