Rajatarangini

The Rajatarangini (Eng. River of Kings ) is a story of Indian Kashmir historian Kalhana, which he wrote from 1147 to 1149 in Sanskrit.

In it the history of the Rajas of Kashmir is described. While the author for the early period reflects the legendary tradition uncritically, he relies for him nearer the time on inscriptions, genealogical charts and coins and is very concerned with his presentation to neutrality.

The work begins with the period of the Mahabharata, then reported in detail about the kingdom of Maurya and detailed information on religions and sects in the 11th and 12th centuries as well as on snake cult, widow burning, as well as administrative and civil service.

The Rajatarangini was by later successors to, among other things, Jonaraja, continued up to the time of Akbar.
