Kalin Twins

The Kalin Twins were a U.S. Popmusikduo that has been successful in the late 1950s.

Band History

The Kalin Twins consisted of the twins Harold and Herbert Kalin. During her childhood, she sang together and after graduating from Port Jervis High School in 1952 they wanted to launch a joint musical career. This they had to, but once back, four years during which Harold was drafted as a radio operator from the U.S. Air Force.

In 1956, she recorded a demo single and songwriter Clint Ballard they were able to apply successfully the record label Decca. A first single did not have any success, but for their second release, they discovered the song When by Paul Evans and Jack Reardon. The song became a worldwide hit and was in the UK for five weeks number 1 in the USA it was number 1 in the R & B charts and entered the pop charts as in Germany among the top 5 When reached gold status in the U.S. and has sold over two million copies worldwide.

International it should remain their only success. In the U.S., the follow-up single Forget Me Not was nevertheless still ranked 12th in 1959 they came twice more in the U.S. charts, then was their hit time but over. By 1962, the twins took on plates and then retreated with the advent of the Beatles and Stones back to work.

Starting in 1977, they came back together or threesome with her younger brother Jack, then as Kalin Brothers on after a fellow nightclub owner had hired for his new River Boat Club. Also, they tried again with single releases. One last major appearance they had in 1989 when 30-year stage anniversary of Cliff Richard, who had then started his career in the opening act of their England tour.

Harold Kalin died in August 2005 in a car accident and Herbert just eleven months later of a heart attack.

When

The song When that the Kalin Twins had made a hit, one of the oldies classics that have been covered successfully over the years again and again. 1974 John Kincade brought his version of the song to the German Top 10, and three years later Showaddywaddy took the song and reached number 9 in Germany and even number 3 in the UK.

A German version under the title If 1958 was also the first hit of the James Brothers alias Peter Kraus and Jörg Maria Berg.
