It is - like all Mongolian languages - an agglutinative language. Kalmyk is spoken by 180,000 people and is the official language in the Republic of Kalmykia in Russia. Kalmyk is written in Cyrillic script since 1923, with a permanent interruption of 1931-1938, in which the Latin alphabet was used.
