Kalte Bode

The Cold Bode is the left, 17 km long river source of Bode in the Harz in Saxony- Anhalt.

Name

The name is a contraction of the names of the river Bode ( qv) and the adjective cold, one derived from the Old High German and Middle High German and unchanged since then has broken adjective. The names of the Cold and Warm Bode caused by the actually existing temperature difference of about 2 ° C.

Course

The Cold Bode rises in the Upper Harz Mountains at the foot of the Brocken, in the southern part of the so-called chunks of the field, right on the border with Lower Saxony, north of Brown situation. Also nearby are the origins of the Great Bode, the plug and the Oder. First, the Cold Bode flows to the east towards Schierke, on the northern slope of the mountain along worm. In Schierke it changes its flow direction to the south.

In Elendstal, a wild and romantic valley between Schierke and misery, the Cold Bode has to bring in the spring on this short piece of huge masses of water into the valley. A few miles beyond misery it is dammed in almond Holzer retention basins until it unites behind Königshütte below the ruins of the royal castle with the Warme Bode for Bode.
