Kałuszyn

Kałuszyn is a town in Poland, in the Masovian Voivodship. The city is located in the powiat Minski and is the seat of city and rural community.

Geography

Geographical location

Kałuszyn located in the eastern part of the Masovian Voivodship, about 50 kilometers east from the center of Warsaw. Neighboring towns are about 15 kilometers west Mińsk Mazowiecki, 25 kilometers north Wegrów, 30 kilometers east of Siedlce and 30 kilometers south Stoczek Łukowski.

History

The first documentary mention of the place as Kaluszino dates from the year 1416. 1660 was the site of a town. 1718 a city charter was confirmed. In the third partition of Poland in 1795 was Kałuszyn part of Prussia. This remained so until the creation of the Duchy of Warsaw in 1809. After its dissolution in 1815, the city was part of Congress Poland. At the end of the November Uprising in 1831 the city was the scene of a battle between the Polish rebels and the Russian army. After the end of World War Kałuszyn became part of the Second Polish Republic. During the Polish campaign, the German army marched into the city in September 1939. After the Second World War Kałuszyn was then part of Poland.

Culture and sights

Structures

The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a neo-Gothic church which was built in 1889-1897. Architect of the building was Józef Pius Dziekoński.

Furthermore, worth seeing is the building of the volunteer fire department and was built in 1918.

Furthermore, there are some monuments in the city. So the monument to the fighters for independence ( Bojownikom o Niepodległość ) which was inaugurated on the 20th anniversary of the recovered independence of Poland on 11 November 1938. Furthermore, a monument commemorates the battles of the First Division of the infantry Józef Piłsudski against the Wehrmacht in September 1939.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

In the east-west direction the country road leads 2 ( Krajowa droga 2), at the same time the European Route 30 forms by Kałuszyn. To the east, it leads after about 130 kilometers to the border crossing Terespol to Belarus. To the west it leads to about 50 kilometers to the center of Warsaw.

The city has no connection to the rail network. There are bus connections, among other things to Warsaw, Minsk Mazowiecki, Biała Podlasie, Siedlce and Białystok.

The nearest international airport is the Frederic Chopin Airport Warsaw, which is located approximately 60 kilometers west of Kałuszyn.

Education

In Kałuszyn there is a the Bolesław Prus - Primary School ( SzkoĹ Podstawowa in. Bolesława Prusa ) and the Middle School 6th Infantry Regiment Józef Piłsudski ( Gimnazjum in 6. Pulku Piechoty Legionów Józefa Piłsudskiego ).
