Kamal Stino

Kamal Ramzi Stino (Arabic كمال رمزي استينو Kamal Ramzi Astinu; * July 10, 1910 in Mansoura, † 1987) was an Egyptian politician.

Life

Kamal received a bachelor degree in agriculture at the University of California Davis, and a Ph.D. at the University of California Berkeley. His field of study was the Pflanzenzytogenetik. He spent a year working for the USDA in Bethesda ( Maryland), as a post - Doctorate internship. When he returned to Egypt, he joined the Agricultural College in the Department of Agronomy at the University of Cairo. He has taught thousands of students and developed a large congregation of his graduate students. More than 160 scientific papers were published by him in reputablen magazines. He also wrote four scholarly books on vegetables. He developed more than 12 new varieties of sweet potatoes, yams, watermelons, large zucchini and eggplant.

1956 appointed president Gamal Abdel Nasser Stino the only Coptic Christian SRefierungsmitglied. He was Minister of Trade and supply in the Egyptian Cabinet and held this post 14 years. He was also Minister of Agriculture and the last 6 years of his tenure at the same time Deputy Prime Minister. During his career he developed several systems to help the poor in Egypt. He initiated a program to sell subsidized staple food by government-owned businesses to the public. This business is operated to this day. He also developed a system to issue ration cards to the poor.

He also initiated the National Poultry Company, under which for the first time broilers were introduced in Egypt. In 1970 he was appointed Head of the Centre for Agricultural Research, 1972 elected the first director of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development.

Dr. Kamal Stino was the eldest son siner family, his five siblings were the engineer Moheb, Dr. Charles, Dr. George, Georgette and Madeline. He was married to Farida Schawki Shenouda, and had his first-born son, Farid, with her. When she died in childbirth, he married her sister, Madeline, and had a son with her, Sherif, and a daughter, Maisie.
