Kampfar

Kampfar is a Pagan and Folk Metal band from Fredrikstad / Norway. The word Kampfar is an old Norwegian battle cry for Odin.

History

Kampfar was founded in 1994 by Dolk, after he left his previous band Mock. His reasons to turn away from pure black metal, he put over the Legacy magazine in 2007 as follows:

" I wanted to create something that was more honest and down to earth than the countless bands with no substance to make an evil. I wanted to create something that is as a person and musician suits me 100%. Therefore Kampfar could not be Satanic because I was never even [...]. "

Dolk wrote the song in 1994 Kampfar and arranged it for the bass. Then he was looking for a guitarist. Thomas joined him and together they wrote the song anthem and publish the MCD Kampfar in November 1996 and nearly three quarters of a year later, in July 1997, the full- length album Mellom Skogkledde Aaser. As a duo, with two albums they composed new songs for the MCD Norse and the album Fra Under Verdenen, both of which appeared in 1999.

After the album's release was followed due to personal matters, an inactive period. Dolk started to play, where he met Jon and acquired for Kampfar in the band Gruesome. Jon was now a permanent member and the trio began to rehearse again.

II13 drummer joined the band in the summer of 2003. The band worked on new songs and finally in mid- 2004, the first live appearance on the Moshfest in Halden, which is not far from her hometown of Fredrikstad. The concerts were very successful, so Kampfar played a few gigs in Norway today in many European countries, including Germany, the Benelux countries and Spain. Kampfar was also headlined the Ravnferd 2006 tour. Kvass was recorded between November 2005 and January 2006 at Silvertone Studio in Fredrikstad. Producer was Rune Jørgensen.

On December 7, 2010, guitarist Thomas about the MySpace profile of the band his exit known. More reasons he did not lead to this, he reiterated, however, that the harmony between him and the band was very good as before.

The fourth studio album, Mare, was released in March 2011.

Style

The music of Kampfar is inspired by Norse mythology, nature and folklore. The reasoning of the apprehension of these elements in the lyrics and in the music Kampfars is evident from the following statement:

" Paganism, the human superstition, life itself, and not least the nature itself have always been the essence of Kampfar formed. Without the nature there Kampfar not, because it has always been the force that has inspired and driven me to write music. Nature determines my emotional life! [ ...] One can say [ ... ] Nature is my religion! "

The lyrics are primarily held in Norwegian. Musically, the band between raw black and pagan metal and classical ( Nordic ) Folklore. This is due to the fact that Dolk (vocals ) in his former band's history by Black Metal, Thomas ( guitar), however, was dominated by more traditional folklore.
