Kanaker-Zeytun district

Kanaker Zeytun (Armenian Քանաքեռ - Զեյթուն ) is a neighboring community to the north-east of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. The municipality was created as a merger of places Kanaker Zeytun and Norway, bordering the districts Awan, Arabkir, Kentron and Nork Nor.

The artist Chatschatur Abovyan and the musician Dschiwan Gasparjan come from Kanaker.

Nor Zeytun was founded in 1946-1948 by Armenian immigrants Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq and Greece. The name Zeytun is the old name of the city Süleymanlı in today's Turkish province of Maras.

Kanaker Zeytun today has a population of 79,600 in an area of 8.1 km ². It is located at an altitude of 1280 m above sea level. The mayor is Arayik Kotanjian.
