Kańczuga

Kańczuga is a city in the powiat Przeworski in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland. It is also seat of the urban and rural community.

Geography

The city lies in the southeast of Poland in Kańczuga powiat Przeworski. About 50 kilometers south of the state and at the same time the EU's external border is with Ukraine, about 80 kilometers south runs the border with Slovakia.

History

The first mention of today's Kańczuga dates from the year 1340. Beginning of the 15th century it was the place the town charter. 1523 the site was re- locates. 1530, the place was surrounded by a fortification wall and had four gates. With the First Partition of Poland in 1772 Kańczuga came to Austria. 1934, the city charter was awarded again. In 1944, the place, by the Second World War was heavily damaged, again part of Poland.

In 1498 the town had 3000 inhabitants.

Structures

In the city there is a monument to the Battle of Grunwald. This was destroyed by German soldiers and 1984, during the People's Republic of Poland, rebuilt.

The parish church dates from the 17th century.

The city is the seat of Kańczuga urban and rural commune ( gmina Miesko - wiejska ) with about 13,000 inhabitants on 105.15 km ².
