Kander Glacier

The Kanderfirn is a valley glacier in the Bernese Alps. It lies in the background of Gasterntals on the region of the Swiss municipality of Kandersteg in the Canton of Bern. The ice flow with pronounced tongue was about 6.75 km long in 1973, with an area of ​​almost 14 km ². By 2010, its length has shortened by about 300 meters.

The western exposed glacier takes its starting point on the western flank of the Tschingelhorns and on the almost completely ice-covered Petersgrat (up to 3203 m above sea level. M. ), on the runs the cantonal border between Bern and Valais. The Petersgrat is an important Eisnachschubgebiet for Kanderfirn. This flows with a uniform slope of about 10% to the southwest, on the north side flanked by the steep cliffs of the Blüemlisalp.
