Kan’ei Uechi

Kan'ei Uechi (Jap.上 地 完 英; born June 26, 1911 † 23 February 1991) was a Japanese martial artist.

He was the son of Kanbun Uechi, the founder of Uechi Ryu Karate style. In his Hombu dojo near the city of Ginowan ( Okinawa ), he taught the Uechi Ryu Karate until his death.

The three originally learned Kata Sanchin, Seisan and Sanseru he added to the five other Kata Kanshiwa, kanshu, Kanchin, Seichin and Seiryu. He also added to the system still Junbi Undo, Hojo Undo and Yakosoku Kumites and Bunkais.

Kanei Uechi 1930 had begun to teach under the guidance of his father in Japan. He coached 10 years, then he opened his own school in Osaka, which he ran for two years. He then returned to Okinawa, married, and settled for a short time as a farmer in Nago. Ryuko Tomoyose, the son of Ryuyu Tomoyose, was living in Futenma ( Okinawa ), when he learned from his father that Kanei was on Okinawa. Ryuko was Kanei and convinced him to teach. Ryuko and a group of karate students built out a dojo for Kanei and brought in as a teacher after Futenma.
