Kang Yong-gyun

Kang Yong- gyun (born 23 July 1974) is a North Korean wrestler. He won a bronze medal in Greco-Roman flyweight at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

Career

Kang Yong- gyun only began at the age of 16 years in 1990 with the rings. He belonged to the Ringer Club Kaesong and has been trained since the beginning of his career, Cha Kwan. It was during his time member of the military, and later he began studying. He was at a size of 1.60 meters very easily and ranking ever in the Greco -Roman style and always in the lowest weight class at the Men's rings, namely the light flyweight ( up to 48 kg) and, from 1998, after a weight class reform by the International Wrestling World Association ( FILA ), flyweight ( up to 54 kg). In 2002, he fought for another weight class reform by the FILA Bantamweight (up to 55 kg).

In 1995 he started for the first time at an international championship, the World Military Championship. He won this same title in front of the Ukrainian Vyacheslav Sergeyenko and the Russians Sergei Girakosijan. In 1996, he finished in the Asia Cup in Xiaoshan / China behind Sim Gwon - ho of South Korea the 2nd place. In the same year he started at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. He won there in the light flyweight übern Piotr Jablonksi, Poland, then lost to Alexander Pavlov, Belarus, triumphed over Oleg Kucherenko, Germany, Ioannis Agatzanian, Greece, Hiroshi Kado, Japan and Wilber Sánchez Amita, Cuba. In his last fight he was defeated by Zafar Guliyev from Russia and then had to settle for 4th place.

1998 occupied Kang Yong- gyun at the Asian Games in Bangkok behind the Olympic champion from 1996 Sim Gwon Ho 2nd place before Wang Hui, China and Dilshod Aripow from Uzbekistan. In 1999 he defended his Zagreb in World Military Championship title. He won there before Taleh Israfilow from Azerbaijan and Boris Ambarzumow from Russia. In the same year he also took part in the regular World Championship in Athens. He won there flyweight about Ercan Yildiz, Turkey, Francesco Costantino, Italy and Simeon Milew, Bulgaria, but then dropped out after a defeat against Lazaro Rivas Scull from Cuba and came to 6th place.

A great success was achieved Kang Yong- gyun in 2000 because he won at the Olympic Games in Sydney flyweight bronze medal. On the way to he initially lost against Marian Sandu, Romania, after defeating Alexei Shevtsov, Russia and Wang Chao- Li, China, then he lost again against Sim Gwon Ho and won the bronze medal by defeating Andriy Kalaschnykow from Ukraine.

In 2001 he won at the Asian Championship in Ulan Bator before Hassan Rangraz from Iran and uranium Kalilow, Kyrgyzstan and 2002, he finished 2nd in the Asian Games in Busan bantamweight behind asset Imanbajew, Kazakhstan. Other successes were Kang Yong- gyun therefore failed because North Korea often sent no wrestler to the world championships for political or financial reasons.
