The Kangal Dog is an emerging breed from Turkey. It is recognized by the Turkish Stud in the FCI, the Köpek Irkları ve Köpek Bilimleri Federasyonu ( KIF ) at national level and belongs to the FCI Group 2, Section 2.2. The breed is not recognized by the FCI. The Kangal Dogs have a typical black markings on the face ( mask), due to which they also Karabaş ( kara: türk black, Bas: türk head) will be called.

The Turkish Stud

The breed is the Kangal Köpek Irkları ve Köpek Bilimleri Federasyonu ( KIF ) ( the canine Association of Turkey) developed as a breed. The FCI and the KIF have on 14 October 2010 entered into a partnership agreement with the KIF became the sole contract partners in Turkey. Since then, the Turkish pedigrees of the FCI recognized.

The KIF is committed to the international recognition of the Kangal Dog as a breed. It carries out studies to genome mapping and breed standard of the Kangal, which will be completed shortly (as of June 2011).

History

The Kangal possibly descended from livestock guardian dogs of the nomads who moved between 10000 BC to 1300 AD from Central Asia to Anatolia. It is believed that it exists in its current form since the 12th century and it is used to protect flocks of sheep, particularly in the region around Sivas and in eastern Anatolia since. The town of Kangal is especially known for the Kangal Dog. This theory of the origin of the Kangal is supported both by linguistic and morphological evidence as well as by genetic studies.

Started in 1975 in Turkey, a training program, were trained in the Kangal dogs for military purposes.

Description

The Kangal Dog is a dog from molossoiden type. The body is slightly longer than tall and muscular. It is covered with thick hair, which has a fine, thick undercoat. The hair length varies depending on the season between about 3 and 7 cm, the color is less uniform, ranging from cream to dark gray. The mask is black, the ears should be black. The eyes are almond-shaped and as dark as possible, otherwise adapted to the coat color, but never in color.

Use

Primarily, the Kangal is a livestock guardian dog, working on the sheep. It is also used as a guard dog. In Turkey, the Kangal is grown as a service dog and used.

Kangal as probably dangerous dog

In Germany, the Kangal is classified as probably dangerous dog in two federal states.

In Hamburg is the Hamburg Law on the holding and guiding dogs (dogs law - HundeG ) of 26 January 2006 "dangerousness suspected for Kangal Kangal and hybrids with other dogs, as long as the competent authority is not detected for the individual dog that this has " no increased aggressiveness and danger to people or animals. Overlaps with other races

The KC also recognizes a breed Anatolian Shepherd Dog. Your standard was reviewed by the Breed Standards and Stud Book Sub - Committee ( BSSB ) 2005. There was a special meeting, which was devoted to the question of a separate recognition of Karabasch / Kangal. A similar proposal was initially not accepted. On 3 October 2012, the KC announced that he will recognize the Kangal breed under the name Turkish Kangal Dog as a breed. The provisional breed standard entered into force on 1 April 2013.
