Kanigowo, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship

Kanigowo [ kaɲigɔvɔ ] ( German Kandien ) is a village in the municipality Nidzica in Poland. It is located five kilometers south of the city Nidzica and belongs to the powiat Nidzicki in the Warmia - Mazury.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1371 as Canegaw, 1496 as Candien. The importance of the Old Prussian name is unclear, but may relate to pests, such as moths, mites and other biting creatures. Already in the 15th century Kandien was the center of a parish. In January 1945, the site was occupied by Soviet troops.

Parish

By 1945 Kandien was a Protestant parish. To this were also the places: Heidemühle, Gniadtken, Kamiontken, Pawlicken, Sablotschken, Sagsau, Saffronken, Schimiontken, Willuhnen.
