Kapelludden

Kapelludden is a promontory on the east coast of the Swedish Baltic island of Öland. The area is designated as a Natura 2000 site.

She can be reached via a four kilometer long access road from Bredsättra about Kläppinge and Sjövik.

There is a small fishing harbor at the tip of the headland. Kapelludden is known by the testimony of history located here. In the Middle Ages it was the village Sikavarp, which became important as a trading center. From the time of this village are the ruins of St. Bridget 's Chapel, and a three- meter high, originating from the 13th century stone cross is obtained. There are remains of a ramp, which probably served to defend Sikavarps At the top of the headland.

Just north of the remnants of the village is a native of the 1872 lighthouse Kapelludden.

East of the stone cross are heaped mounds, which are interpreted as the remains of a lime kiln.

On 14 January 2007, the stone cross during the storm Per hit by the ruins of a neighboring hut and damaged. The cross was broken into three parts. After restoration it was re-erected in October 2007.
