The Karasu ( Turkish for black water ) and Western Euphrates River is a river in eastern Turkey.

It forms the northern source stream of the Euphrates and rises at Dumlu Dagi, an offshoot of the mescit Dağları, northeast of the provincial capital of Erzurum and south of the county town Tortum. The water of these springs loaded up to the union with the Murat the Euphrates about 460 km back. The Karasu first flows to the southwest towards the city of Erzurum, continuing through the valleys of the provinces of Erzurum and Erzincan to the west. Then he describes a wide left turn to the south to enter from the north-west in the Keban Reservoir. Here he combines with the water coming from the east Murat the Euphrates.
