KÃ¥re Bluitgen

Kåre Bluitgen ( born May 10, 1959 in Birkerød - Bistrup, Denmark ) is a Danish writer and journalist who became known for his biography of the Islamic religious leader Muhammad. In the 1970s Bluitgen was politically active for the Danish left, namely for the Venstresocialisterne ( " Left Socialists ").

Life

Trained as a teacher and journalist, Bluitgen also worked since 1994 as a writer. Among his works are books for children, youth, history and fantasy novels; However, another of his books deal with topics such as politics, religion and philosophy, and have been translated into several languages. He received a number of respected Danish literary prizes. Bluitgen was active also as translator, lecturer, editor, and instructor at the Danish folk high schools.

Mohammed 's children's book

When he wrote the children's book Koranen og Prophet's Muhammad's live, he had difficulties, but to find an illustrator who would draw Mohammed because the retaliation Islamist extremists have feared. The Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten responded to this situation in which they inquired at forty signers, whether they would be willing to make caricatures of the Prophet. The resulting cartoons sparked the so-called cartoon crisis. However Bluitgens book was not the subject of controversy.
