Karel Masopust

Karel Masopust ( born October 4, 1942 in Prague ) is a former Czechoslovak ice hockey player who has played for many years in the top division of Czechoslovakia for Sparta Prague and České Budějovice motor ( 1970-74 ) on the position of the defender.

Career

Karel Masopust began his career at Motorlet Prague before he played during his time in the army at Dukla Jihlava. After completing his service, he played for many years with Sparta Prague, before he later moved to České Budějovice and ended his career after the season 1975/76 at Ingstav Brno. In a total of 15 seasons in the top division of Czechoslovakia, he scored 114 goals in 474 games.

The greatest success of his career was the participation in the 1968 Olympic Winter Games, where he won the silver medal with the Czechoslovak national team. In twelve countries playing in the national team, he scored three goals.

Since 1993 Masopust works as a scout for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League.
