Karel Poborský

Karel Poborský ( born March 30, 1972 in Jindřichův Hradec ) is a former Czech football player. The attacking midfielder is Czech 's most capped player.

Career

Karel Poborský began his career at Jiskra Trebon. In 1984 he moved to Dynamo České Budějovice, where he remained ten years apart from the 1987/88 season, when he played again for Trebon. In 1994 he went to Prague at Victoria Zizkov. In the winter of 1996 brought him Slavia Prague. After the successful 1996 European Championship signed him Manchester United. With the English game, he got along poorly, after two years, he was deported to Benfica.

In January 2001, he moved to Lazio, where he became a public hero, mainly because of his two goals on the final day of the season 2001/ 02 against Inter Milan, Juventus, which still Italian champion. However, he left in 2002 to his home to Sparta Prague and became the highest-paid player in the Czech league. In September 2005, he criticized coach Jaroslav Hřebík, after his contract was terminated and Poborský returned to České Budějovice in the second league, where in 1991 had begun his professional career.

On Whit Monday 2007, he finished his career. In the summer of 2007, he took alongside his future Board activities during his last club České Budějovice and the Office of the Technical Director of the Czech national team. His nick name is Steve. He emerged in the early 1980s, when the Canadian downhill rider Steve Podborski was successful.

National

On 18 August 2004, he became the first Czech national team, which reached the 100 - game mark. His first game for the national team he had played on 23 February 1994 against Turkey. At Euro 1996, he scored the winning goal in the quarterfinal against the Portuguese national team. He participated in the Euro 1996, Euro 2000, Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup as a national player.

Achievements

Poborský 1996 Czech Slavia Prague with champion, 2003 and 2005 with Sparta Prague. With Manchester United 1997 he won the Premier League. With the Czech national team, he was in England in 1996 Vice European Champion.
