Karen Blixen Museum (Kenya)

The Karen Blixen Museum in Nairobi is one of the National Museums of Kenya. The exhibition is located in the former home of the Danish writer Karen Blixen. The house, called Mbogani, is located in Karen, a suburb of Nairobi, at the foot of the Ngong Hills. Mbogani was built in 1912 by Åke Sjögren and acquired in 1917 by Bror Blixen - Finecke, the same year moved Blixen Finecke there with his wife one. After their marriage Karen Blixen lived there with Denys Finch Hatton. 1931 Karen Blixen sold the house and went back to Denmark. 1963 acquired the Danish Government the house and sold it in the same year on to the National Museums of Kenya. Three years later opened a utility school on the premises, served Mbogani doing the school principal as an apartment. In the 1980s, began a Danish committee to rebuild the farm house into a museum. The film production company Universal film that had a movie Out of Africa Karen Blixen's book, donated $ 5,000 for the renovation. He managed to acquire parts of the original interior of the farmhouse and set up the house with it.

The Museum
