Karenni Army

The Karenni Army is the armed wing of the Karen National African - Progressive Party ( Karenni National Progressive Party, KNPP ), a political organization fighting for the independence of Kayah State in Myanmar.

The KNPP and the Karenni Army was founded in 1955 by Saw Mah Rew.

With the exception of a non- durable ceasefire since 1995, she is fighting against the troops of the central government of Myanmar. Since 2005, there are always efforts to obtain a cease-fire about, but so far apparently without much success. The number of armed fighters is estimated at between 1,000 and 2,000 men.
