Karigasniemi

Karigasniemi [ kɑrigɑsniɛmi ] ( Northern Sami Gáregasnjárga ) is a village in the municipality of Utsjoki in Finnish Lapland. It is located 102 km south-west of the community center of the Finnish- Norwegian border Utsjoki river Inarijoki, the few miles to the north joins the Karasjohka and becomes the River Teno. About 500 people live in Karigasniemi and environment. The majority of the inhabitants are seeds.

In Karigasniemi a bridge over the Inarijoki to Norway. The nearest major town is Karasjok on the Norwegian side in about 20 miles away. Because of the lower price levels Karigasniemi attracts numerous Norwegian shopping tourists. On the Finnish side the main road leads after 92 Kaamanen in the municipality of Inari. This road link was built during the Second World War by German soldiers. Originally, it was the worst piece of State Road 4, which leads to Utsjoki but since 1993. The Riverside follow the regional road 970 downstream to Utsjoki and the dirt road to the village of Angeli 9704 in the municipality of Inari.
