Karl Burckhardt

Karl Burckhardt - Iselin ( born July 2, 1830 in Basel, † August 24, 1893 ) was a Swiss politician.

Life

Karl Burckhardt studied law at the Universities of Basel, Göttingen, Berlin, Greifswald, Heidelberg and Paris. He was in Göttingen on the Corps Bremensia. After completing his studies with Dr. iur. he 1859 State clerk and town clerk in Basel, 1868 Coroner, 1871 Crime and Police Judge, 1872 president of the court.

From 1861 to 1873, Burckhardt was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. In 1873 he was (last ) Mayor of Basel. In 1875 he was Constitutional Council, after the complete revision of the cantonal constitution he stood from 1875 to 1893 as a council the police department of the Canton of Basel-Stadt ago. In parallel, he was from 1875 to September 1889 and the National Council, which he 1879/80 and presided. He represented the left free mind. From 1880 to May 1891 he was at the same time substitute at the federal courthouse.
