Karl Friedrich Becker

Karl Friedrich Becker ( born March 11, 1777 in Berlin, † March 15, 1806, Carl Friedrich and Carolus Fridericus ) was a German pedagogue and historian.

Life

Becker studied at the University of Halle philosophy and history. After completing his studies, Becker worked for a time tutor in Cottbus; then 1798-1800 Member of the Department of scholarly schools in Berlin. Because of ill health he had to renounce any teaching activity and devoted himself exclusively to literature, especially historical, work to end of his life. He died at the age of 29 years on 15 March 1806.

  • Tales from the Old World for the youth (Hall 1801 to 1803, 3 vols; 10th edition of Hermann Masius, 1873),
  • The poetry from the point of view of the historian (Berlin 1803)
  • World history for kids and kids teachers ( Berlin 1801-1805, 9 vols ), which continued from Karl Ludwig Woltmann and Karl Adolf Menzel, later by Johann Wilhelm loebell, then by Wilhelm Adolf Schmidt and Karl Eduard Arnd ( 8th ed, das. 1874, 22 vols ) and more recently by Wilhelm Müller (Stuttgart 1883 et seq ) has been revised and continued, whereby they received a greater scientific soundness, of course, also the peculiar charm of Becker 's presentation entirely forfeited.
