Karl Heinzen

Karl ( Peter ) Heinzen ( born February 22, 1809 in Grevenbroich, † November 12, 1880 in Boston ) was a German -American author and journalist.

Life

After attending school in his hometown Grevenbroich and in Kempen Heinzen began in 1827 to study medicine at the University of Bonn, where he became in 1828 a member of the Corps Guestphalia Bonn. In 1829 he was expelled from the university. He entered Dutch service and traveled to the East Indies. After his return and the Prussian military service, he became a civil servant in the tax administration. In several writings, he criticized the Prussian administration sharp and had to flee to Belgium in 1844, and later in Switzerland, and 1847 in the United States. From there, he led a journalistic confrontation with Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in the German - Brussels newspaper. From there he returned after the outbreak of the March Revolution of 1848 returned to Germany and supported the Baden Revolution. After its failure, he went back to the U.S., where he was editor and publisher of several newspapers, particularly the pioneer, 1859-1879 was published recently in Boston. Heinzen came into his writings for uncompromising democratic views a, from which he derived a morally -related equality of women. However, remains questionable his attitude to revolutionary violence, the advocated terrorist attacks against ruling dynasties such as against an innocent civilian population as a means to an end.
