Karl Hübner

Carl Wilhelm Hübner ( born June 17, 1814 Königsberg, † December 5, 1879 in Dusseldorf ) was a German genre and landscape painter of the Romantic period.

Life

His first art lessons got Hübner Professor Johann Eduard Wolff in his hometown. Through its promotion Hübner was recorded in 1837 at age 23 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. He remained there until 1841, where he was a student of Wilhelm von Schadow and Carl Ferdinand Sohn.

Hübner is considered a representative of the Düsseldorf School. From 1841 he led his own studio. Huebner's main works are oil paintings depicting scenes of everyday life, especially scenes of human and social conflicts. His attention was often considering " the other side", such as the life of thieves, smugglers or poachers.

A well-known work is the painting The Silesian Weavers, in which under the influence of Weber uprising the human, social and thus political conflicts of the workers' existence in the sign of the changing world in the mid-19th century based on the representation of a bourgeois manufacturer and by him find Weber dependent expression. The image was shown in 1844 under large crowds in Cologne, Berlin, Halberstadt and other German locations. 1847 Huebner took an extended study tour of the United States. His sketches that ensued, after his return formed the basis of many of his pictures. On August 6, 1848 Huebner was instrumental in the founding of the Artists' Union paintbox and some time also its chairman. Carl Hübner paid homage to the spirit of its immense creative power, but lacked his images in the eyes of contemporary critics on " academic sense ." They accused him of "realism " in front in the sense that he usually did without sentimentality and idealization of the action depicted in his paintings.
