Karl Köther

Karl Köther ( born May 28, 1905 in Hannover, † 1986) was a German racing cyclist.

Karl Köther began his active cycling career at the age of 16 years. 1926 and 1927 he became German champion in each one and ten kilometers. Highlight of his career was winning the bronze medal at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam in tandem race together with Hans Bernhardt, his biggest competitor was at the national level.

1933 Köther did better than 400 amateur victories, was professional, but came back in 1936 from active cycling and opened a bicycle shop in Hanover. He was also active as a functionary who led the velodrome in Hanover- Wülfel and was sports director of the Hannover Six Day race.

His son, Karl Köther Jr., in 1971 German champion in the 1000m time trial; in this discipline, he finished fourth at the 1972 Olympics in Munich.
