Karl Samuel Leberecht Hermann

Carl Samuel Leberecht Hermann ( born January 20, 1765 in Königerode, resin, † September 1, 1846 in Beautiful Beck on the Elbe ) was a German chemist and chemical manufacturer.

Life and work

Hermann took over after his pharmacy education in Halberstadt 1792, the pharmacy in Wieliczka near Magdeburg. In studies of the waste from the Royal Saltworks at Beautiful Beck, he realized that this waste can serve as starting material for chemical products. From 1794 Hermann won from these wastes with his company Hermania potassium and magnesium salts and hydrochloric acid. He was the first in Germany, the Leblanc process for the production of soda a.
