Karl Scheidemantel

Karl sheath sheath (born 29 January 1859 in Weimar, † June 26, 1923 in Dresden), was an opera singer with the vocal range baritone, and later director and opera director.

Life

The son of Hofkunsttischlers scabbard sheath of Weimar was successfully diverse roles in operas by Richard Wagner. Among his patrons were Bodo Borchers in Weimar, Julius Stockhausen in Frankfurt am Main, and Franz Liszt. He made his debut in 1878 at the court theater in Weimar, where he remained engaged until 1886. Then he sang until 1911 at the Dresden Court Opera. 25 years of his work he spent there and in 1884 was appointed " Grand Ducal Saxon chamber singers ".

Since 1884 he has performed in Milan, London, Vienna and Berlin.

He sang in 1886, 1888, 1891 and 1892 at the Bayreuth Festival. With Cosima Wagner, he exchanged ideas on what is happening on the stage. At major European houses, including the Vienna Court Opera, he sang in April and May 1890, the roles of Heiling, Rene ( Renato ), Zampa, tungsten, Luna and Sachs also at La Scala in 1892, he had guest appearances. His closest friend was the singer Karl Perron.

Scabbard sheath bought the villa in 1891 Striesener 8th place in Dresden. In June 1897 he married Anne in the church Hedwig Lehnert.

On 8 June 1911 he took his stage in Dresden farewell in the role of Hans Sachs in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Previously, he excelled even in the premiere of Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier. Then he went back to Weimar, where he distinguished himself as a music teacher. His students included Hermann Uhde. He also served as a director and as a translator of opera librettos.

1920-22 he came again to Dresden as director of the Dresden Opera. He is buried at the Urnenhain Tolkewitz ( Dresden).

Honors

In his honor, the scabbard sheath street was named in Dresden.
