Julius Stockhausen

Julius Christian Stockhausen ( born July 22, 1826 in Paris, † September 22, 1906 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German singer ( baritone voice ), singing teacher and conductor.

Life

Stockhausen was sen as the son of the harpist and composer Franz Stockhausen. (1792-1868) and the Alsatian soprano Margarethe Stockhausen born jewelry born. As a child he learned to play several instruments. He received his vocal training with Manuel Patricio Rodríguez García at the Conservatory in Paris.

Stockhausen sang Mendelssohn's Elijah in 1848 in Basel and in 1857 a member of the Opéra -Comique in Paris. From 1862 to 1867 he was conductor of the Hamburg Philharmonic concerts at the Academy of Music in Hamburg ( 1862-67 ) and from 1874 to 1878 of the Stern Choral Society in Berlin. From 1878 to 1880 and from 1883 to 1884 he was a teacher at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main. Among other things, were among his pupils Karl scabbard sheath, Jenny Hahn, Therese Behr - Schnabel, John Messchaert (also: Johan ), Hermine Spies, Hugo Goldschmidt and Max Friedlaender. His daughter, Julia Wirth born Stockhausen (1886-1964), married the son of the German violinist Emanuel Wirth, Joseph Wirth, physician and administrative director of a municipal hospital. She wrote a biography of Stockhausen.

In 1869, Stockhausen was honored with the appointment to the Royal Württemberg Chamber singers.
