Emanuel Wirth

Emanuel Wirth ( born October 18, 1842 in Luditz; † 5 January 1923 in Berlin) was a German violinist.

Life

As assistant of Joseph Joachim at the Academy of Music in Berlin Wirth was a teacher of violin and viola. August Wilhelmj called him the best violin teachers of his generation. Among his students, among others Albert Stoessel and Edmund Severn.

He also played for almost 30 years, from 1877 to 1906, Viola in his time very successful Joachim Quartet. It was also from Joseph Joachim himself, Robert Haussmann and Heinrich de Ahna, who was replaced in 1897 by Carl Halir. His son Joseph married the youngest daughter of the singer and singing teacher Julius Stockhausen, Julia Wirth born Stockhausen ( 1886-1964 ).
